Remove and set aside stone retaining wall which was leaning. Building engineering brick retaining wall and reusing original stone to rebuild wall in front of brick wall- to structural engineers’ details. Finally fixed and re pointed in lime mortar

A recent project we have been working on is the restoration of the Hydrangea Garden at Darley Park in Derby.

This original stone wall had become unsteady and many of its stones had already begun to roll down the bank. To restore the wall aesthetically and safely it was temporarily removed, and the stone set aside. In accordance with the structural engineers’ details, a retaining brick wall was first built to support the exterior stone wall. Through these pictures you can see some stages of the building process, resulting in a structurally sound and original looking stone wall.
